October 15, 2009 Tropical Storm New to Hurstland Farm in 2010 Tropical Storm, ¾ brother to Hennessy, by Storm Cat out of Pearl City, GI winning daughter of Carson City, will stand stud in 2010 at Hurstland Farm. Tropical Storm, a leading second crop sire, has both two and three year old winners from his first two crops and has produced on average over 50% winners from starters. Among those winners is two-year old, Little Bud Bud, who set a new track record at Golden Gate Fields for 2 furlongs in 21.50. Tropical Storm's stud fee for 2010 is $3,500.00 due when the foal stands and nurses. October 10, 2009 Hurstland Bred Colt Winner of Delaware Park Stakes CITRUS KID, '07 colt by Lemon Drop Kid -- Orange Ice by Ginistrelli won the Dover Stakes at Delaware Park impressively by 5 lengths for owners Team Stallion Racing, John L. Moirano, Harold Lerner & David B. Cassidy and trainer Gary Contessa. This colt was bred by Hurstland Farm, Inc. & W. S. Farish. Congratulations to all! August, 2009 Two Stakes Winners by BRIGHT LAUNCH in One Week LAUNCH LIGHT, '07 gelding by Bright Launch won the Cradle Stakes (6 f.) at Prairie Meadows on August 29th following the stakes win of his full sister, LAUNCH LIGHT GIRL, '06 by Bright Launch on August 23rd in the MTA Stallion Auction Lassie Stakes at Canterbury Park. Both these horses not only share the same stallion, Bright Launch but are out of the same mare, Velva by Gold Legend, have the same owner/breeder, William L. Hobbs and are both trained by Kelly Von Hemel. Congratulations to Mr. Hobbs on one spectacular week! July 17, 2009 Hurstland Homebred Stakes Winner KISS WITH A TWIST Retired Stakes winner and graded stakes-placed Kiss With a Twist has been retired to Alfred Nuckols’ Hurstland Farm near Midway, Ky. The 5-year-old mare, by Lemon Drop Kid —Gimmeakissee, by Doc's Leader, who raced for Nuckols, made her last start June 13, finishing unplaced in the Fleur de Lis Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill Downs. Prior to that, she ran second in the Arlington Matron Handicap (gr. III), finished third in the Jenny Wiley Stakes (gr. IIT) at Keeneland and won the Wintergreen and My Charmer Stakes, both at Turfway Park. Kiss With a Twist won six of 23 starts, with five seconds and five thirds for trainer, Jose Fernandez, and earned $340,524. She was bred in Kentucky by Alfred H. Nuckols III, Leigh Nuckols, and Stonerside Stable. “It’s a real privilege to race a filly like her that ran with such determination and never ran a bad race” said Nuckols. "As Jose Fernandez liked to say, 'she always shows up'." Plans for her 2010 mating are still pending. Update: Kiss With a Twist was bred on February 27th to Dixie Union. |
